Glasgow and South Western-Railway (466 engl. Meilen = 750 km) mit dem Sitz der Gesellschaft in Glasgow. Die Hauptlinie geht von Glasgow über Kilmarnock, Dumfries Annan nach Carlisle (Anschluß an die Midland-Bahn).
Weitere Linien führen nach Greenock, Ardrossan, Troon, Ayr, Muirkirk, Dalmellington, Girvan, Stranraer.
Außerdem führt die G. den Betrieb auf mehreren Pachtbahnen gemeinschaftlich mit den Gesellschaften London and North-Western, Midland und Caledonian gehörigen Portpatrick and Wegtownshire Joint-Bahn (die Linien von Castle Douglas über Newton Stewart und Dunragit nach Stranraer und Portpatrick und von Newton Stewart nach Whithorn).
Die G. ging aus der Fusion der Bahnen Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr und Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle hervor. Mit Akte vom 26. Juni 1855 wurde die Gesellschaft unter der neuen Firma genehmigt. Die Eröffnung der Hauptlinien nach Carlisle erfolgte 1843–1850.
Der ihr 1869 einverleibte Paisley-Kanal wurde 1881 zugeschüttet und durch eine am 1. Juli 1885 eröffnete Eisenbahn Glasgow-Paisley-Elderslie ersetzt.
Das verwendete Anlagekapital betrug 1912 24,934.056 ₤
Die Betriebseinnahmen stellten sich 1912 auf 2,014.361 ₤. Hiervon Personen-, Gepäck-, Eilgut-, Fahrzeugverkehr 823.046 und 1,004.383 ₤ auf den Güterverkehr. Die Ausgaben betrugen 1,214.199 ₤. Der Betriebskoeffizient belief sich auf 60%.
